Unfortunately, Saturday brought no great insights during setup, Stefan said after the third free practice he was a bit perplexed, because he does not know why Bautista is one second faster. Stefan come not better than position 22.
The main problem is the lack of rear grip, Stefan says he has no feeling for the tail and is therefore simply too slow.
Normaly Stefan can use the soft rear slick excellent, but this weekend does not succeed in that. He tries to get better by an adapted riding style from the curves, such as raise the machine earlier and to be more careful when he open the throttle. But that’s not so easy as it sounds.
Anyway, Stefan is studying the data from Alvaro to possibly see what he do better.
There have been much tried at the geometry for the fourth free practice session, the RS-GP was made higher and tested two different length swingarms. For the race, the longer swing arm will be used, as in the fast corners, the Aprilia is more stable.
Stefan reduced the gap to Bautista, but 5/10 still too much. Apparently for the Aprilia slicks on the left side too hard and the riders get the tyres in the left turns not to work. Aprilia MotoGP project manager Marco Bertolatti confirmed Bradl statement.
In the first qualifying Stefan was half a second slower than Bautista and starts tomorrow from 21 position in grid. To get points tomorrow are not a easy job for Bradl.
Nevertheless, we remain optimistic and cross both thumbs for Stefan and hope you enjoy the GP of Australia.
