Fantastic nine points were the yield of the GP of Argentina in Termas de Rio Hondo!
After all tires squabbling including prescribed bike change after half of the race, was a seventh place for Bradl not expected.
Firstly him all weekend plagued clutch problems, so that he could try a single start. Accordingly modest was his race start. Secondly, many other problems that need to probably solve more often.
But Stefan was a good performance show and retired super from the affair.
Michelin wrote for safety reasons a relatively high air pressure at the rear tire, which resulted in Stefan that the rear wheel began to strong vibrate. So Bradl could not do anything more to the front, but to manage only his lead to his pursuers.
Through a perfectly timed moment equal in the ninth round to change the bike to Stefan gave also a clear lead. His pit stop worked out great.
Of course, one must not forget that Stefan also benefited from many falls of its competitors, but it was felt that they had done a very good job.
It is a very important result for him, the team and the work.
After many hard work and the good 16th place and his Chief Race Director Romano Albesiano was simplified because it is not going so well on Friday. Although the GP-RS is only at the beginning of development, they can already play with the other.
In the race it was to make the most important no mistake, though Stefan had several front rider, fortunately, he was able to prevent a fall because of the folded front wheel.
This task solved Bradl outstanding. Of course, one must not assume that things will continue with the results, but it is a good basis exists now.
In seven days, it is already in Austin / Texas on.
Ninth place at the World Championship opener in Qatar for Philipp Öttl
After an intensive pre-season, with ten days of testing in Spain and Qatar, Philipp Öttl launched its fourth season in the Motorcycle World Championship. The 19 year old was already in the tests that a step he again succeeded forward. This he also confirmed in the course of training for the race. In qualifying, he qualified with 0.5 seconds down on the fastest time for the ninth position. The top 20 drivers were within one second, despite a lap time of two minutes. Also this season, most races will only decide at the last minute. In the motorcycle manufacturers an exciting competition between KTM and Honda is expected. Philipp and his team are closely linked to the brand from Austria for seven years.
Philipp started the race not very good and ended the first lap in 13th place as in the initial stage some maneuvers failed, he even much back to 19th place. But in the following eight laps he overtook ten drivers and distanced the group over the next three laps around three seconds. His lap times were identical to the leader. Thus Philip was indeed the first followers of the leading group, but were not enough for the final six laps to close the gap. After 38 minutes driving time he crossed the finish line as the ninth and got the first seven World Cup points. So good he was never launched in a World Cup season.
Philipp Öttl:
“Although I am happy with the World Cup kick-off, but it would have been possible. Positive were my overtaking and the strong lap times. When I get faster in my usual rhythm in the early stages of the race, I have even greater opportunities in the leading group to fight a Top Placement. After 12 days in Qatar I am looking forward to a week at home before going to Argentina and Austin / Texas. “
The hard work of the season opener was not rewarded!
The first GP this year was for Stefan Bradl and his team hard work, which is not least because that is an absolute Stefans motorcycle redevelopment.
The Aprilia RS-GP was not completed until after the first official Sepang test and had their first rollout three weeks ago in a private test in Qatar.
Unlike the private testing Stefan and his team-mate remained in the free practice sessions of mechanical problems spared, but they prepared the unit electronics headache.
The electronics reacts quite sensitive, always when the setup is changed to the chassis, the engineers have to adapt the electronics in painstaking detail work. Without real experience that is very time consuming and costly.
Therefore, currently the most important as many rounds as possible to drive, in order to learn a lot about the laps.
That is the one side, on the other side must also be worked on as a weekend still on the chassis setup. Stefan was the RS-GP in mid-corner to inconstant and worked for the upright and out accelerate too much, say the motorcycle bounced back too deeply.
In the fourth free practice had a fall Bradl put away the remained fortunately without consequences, because it worked only the front wheel. In the first qualifying session then it caught in the same way his teammates.
Both think once they try to push and go to the personal limit, they lose their grip on the front tire. But this may not last are the Michelin front tire.
Stefan still qualified as 20th for the race. Garage neighbor Bautista was ranked 17th
Bradl had a good start into the race and found himself immediately in 15th place again, but then fabricated a braking mistake and was last.
Nevertheless reach Stefan very pleasing lap times, he improved continuously and was even faster than in qualifying against middle of the race. He could go to laptimes from the 10th position!
Bautista and Bradl furrowed their rounds and were already on P14 and 15 as Stefan in Turn 15 (a left turn) on both wheels lost.
It was an unusual fall because Stefan was no longer on the brakes as he slid out the machine very slowly.
Too bad, because his performance was always better as well as feel for the bike. At least he accepts the failure of his cap.
This leaves only the positive take and prepare for the Argentine GP in two weeks.
We are exited how it goes again!
